Chakras refer to several energy centers in the body that correspond to specific bundles of nerves and internal organs. The seven main chakras range from the base of the spine to the top of the head. If these energy centers are blocked, you may experience physical or emotional symptoms related to a particular chakra. Chakras are believed to provide subtle energy that helps organs, mind and intellect function at their best level. Chakras and spiritual energy haven't been thoroughly examined in medical studies, but they can help you think about your own mind and body as in any religion or belief. Using lavender essential oil in a diffuser has helped me heal my crown chakra and keep myself in tune with this energy center. The root chakra, or Muladhara in Sanskrit, is the first and main chakra, believed to be located at the base of the spine.
When this chakra is balanced, it allows for creativity, positive self-expression, constructive communication and a sense of satisfaction. When the sacral chakra is out of balance, a person may feel emotionally explosive and irritable, lack energy and creativity, feel manipulative, or obsessed with sexual thoughts. Unlike the other chakras, the crown chakra is often only fully opened through specific yoga or meditation exercises, or at certain times, which is not a skill set you can draw on at any given time. There are 7 major and larger chakras that lie along the spine (not actually in the spine).
The Anahata, or heart chakra, is the bridge between the lower chakras (associated with materiality) and the upper chakras (associated with spirituality). Since the chakras are interrelated, when one of them is unbalanced, it also causes an alteration in the functionality of the other chakras. A dominant chakra of the solar plexus (one that is not in balance with the other chakras in your system or one where your energy is concentrated only) can result in obsessive-compulsive control. This chakra represents wisdom, imagination, intuition and the ability to analyze and perceive truth in the world.
However, if you have signs of multiple chakras blocked, just know that it's totally normal and any good yoga class or healer will work to align them all at once, creating a clear channel for prana to flow from head to toe. Centrally located near the heart, this chakra represents, of course, love, unconditional love, acceptance, compassion and intuition.
