Physical imbalances include headaches, blurred vision, sinus problems, eye strain, seizures, hearing loss, hormonal function. Emotional imbalances include problems with moodiness, volatility, and self-reflection; an inability to look at one's fears and learn from others. In Sanskrit, the word chakra roughly translates as “wheel”. The body's seven symbolic energy wheels begin at the base of the spine and end at the crown of the spine.
They connect with the body with the mind and the mind with the spirit. An imbalance in the root chakra blocks our energy source. We suffer from low energy, lethargy and exhaustion, both physically and mentally. Our minds can feel distracted and fraught with worries and fears around stability and death.
When your chakras are out of balance, they can have too much energy and be hyperactive. They may also have very little energy flowing and be underactive or blocked. Recognizing the signs (physical and mental) of an imbalance will help you put pressure where you need it most, leading to a domino effect to expel blockages. However, if you have signs of multiple chakras blocked, just know that it's totally normal and any good yoga class or healer will work to align them all at once, creating a clear channel for prana to flow from head to toe.
A persistent fear of ending up alone, especially accompanied by a broken heart, indicates a major imbalance in the heart chakra. Morgan is a graphic designer and yoga instructor committed to inspiring compassion, balance and centrality, on and off the mat.
