The Benefits of Balancing Your Chakras

When your chakras are balanced, it can have a positive effect on your physical and spiritual wellbeing. Energy healer and Reiki practitioner Parita Shah explains that when the seven main chakras are open and balanced, energy can flow freely through our bodies and minds. This can help to reduce negative feelings and thoughts, as well as physical ailments. When any of these energy centers become blocked, it leads to stagnation and can contribute to a variety of physical and spiritual ailments.

According to Tucker, depending on which chakra is out of balance, physical or emotional symptoms may occur. These can range from not being willing to try new things, to fatigue, to feeling a lot of anxiety in social situations. Each chakra is also connected to a different color, element and function. Balancing the throat chakra is as easy as “being impeccable with your word” (The 4 Agreements of Don Miguel Ruiz).

This means speaking with integrity and only saying what you really want to say. In addition to doing yoga, breathing exercises or meditation can also provide general balance. This can help you to be a little more present and downregulate the overall stress response. To balance the sacral chakra, it's helpful to first find out if you're hyperactive or underactive.

If this is out of balance, you will struggle in relationships and how to connect with your inner and outer world. When I first entered the treatment room for my Seasons of Chakra massage, I was curious to know the small details that would supposedly balance my chakra (or at least help me stay more in touch with them). Emotional imbalances manifest as feelings that affect basic survival needs: money, housing, food, and the ability to meet life's needs. Tucker says there are at least two simple ways to actively practice chakra balancing on a daily basis.

In times of struggle or change, energy can stop flowing freely and cause Charka (s) to become blocked or unbalanced. So the best way to start balancing all of your chakras and working toward well-being is to start at the root and work your way up to the crown, one chakra at a time. If you're in balance, you'll feel empowered to take creative risks, embrace your sexuality, and be an extrovert. If you're out of balance, you'll often feel like they don't hear you, aka you'll be the doormat in relationships.
